Funny Amish Ad You Have to See
I am usually not a fan of the Main Stream Media's attempts at explaining or exploiting the Amish. But Slate, the on-line magazine, has a story about a funny ad for PowerAde featuring drag-racing Amish hay wagon drivers that you really should look at. The director of the ad is Aaron Ruell, the nerdy brother in Napoleon Dynamite, one of the strangest and funniest movies I have ever seen. Unfortunately, looked at logically, the ad makes no sense, and a suit by Coca Cola resulted in Pepsi Cola pulling the ad before it got much play. But you can see it at the Slate site and it is certainly worth a chuckle.

The woman throwing her prayer bonnet in the air to start the race is the funniest part.
We saw the ad several times due to the fact that my husband is a "March Madness" follower. I thought that is was pretty bizarre but funny. So who is suing ?
My understanding is Coca Cola is suing Pepsi Cola because to have more energy, you need more calories rather than fewer, so it is misleading. To settle the suit, Pepsi pulled the ad.

cute!
Why are the two racers so old and unattracive compared to the young, attracive woman? Are we to believe that the winner of race gets the affection of the blond, and if so, would she really want it? :)
Amishlaw, please straighten us out!
Who you calling "old?" Those men look pretty young to me. I'll let you argue with p.g. whether they're attractive. No, I don't think the winner of the drag race gets the blond. I never got any blonds when I was drag racing hay wagons.
Crockhead adds metrosexualphobia to his hangups if he dare not tell one attractive man from another. Get your Amish bootie out of the 20th century, dude.
Sorry p.g., none of the men look attractive to me. I have no phobias about the Metra, but I don't know what a Metrasexual is. I might be afraid of it if it tried to run over me with a hay wagon.
I think the whole world has turned into a talk show bickerfest from Fox News. Plus global warming. I'm tempted to become a fundamentalist evangelical and retreat into illusion. Or maybe I should become Amish and move to Bolivia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metrosexual
So it's a narcissist. Why didn't you say so in the first place? No thanks to being a metrosexual. Amish don't believe in narcissism.
I briefly developed a case of MetroPhobia while in DC a few weeks ago. It's all cleared up now though, and I don't believe it is contagious.
I thought it was straight people assuming the traits of gay people (and would then in other words be able to discern which of the two Amish drivers was the cuter). I don't think that's grammatically correct. I think A Crockhead Abroad has been sidetracked by this comment thread. We need a whole new blog.
