Don't Squawk Unless You've Been Hit
I've gotten a lot of flack, privately, about my salvation post of January 18th, below. I'm reminded of a saying of my sainted mother (who everyone agrees will make it, despite her poor job at raising her sons.) She used to say that when you throw a rock into a flock of chickens, the ones who squawk are the ones who have been hit. You figure it out.

personally, i thought it was great. but i can't get my brain around those chickens.
How bout another Barack post tho. I'm a little worried that if he wins can he beat McCain. But this AM in the Sun. Globe i read that they (the analysts) think he can.
oh maybe i do get it about those chickens, i think. the squakers are the ones where it hit home???

Hmmm, see, I thought it was a great post, and that you did a good job of being respectful of those whose mileage might vary. Not having had a salvation experience, I figured that saying "wow, you were brave to hold out as long as you did against a lot of parental pressure" might sound insincere from someone who hadn't been there. But knowing you got flack, I'll say it now :).
I had some time this morning and so I went back to the referenced post and Hughes' essay. Egads, my stomach began to churn as I remembered the various times when I've sat captive under the sway of a manipulative evangelist. Even as a little child, I had picked up the concept of God's kindness leading to repentance, and I couldn't understand the abusive imagery used to motivate and exploit people. To this day such ideas are toxic to my system! So, let the chickens squawk. Your mother was a wise woman!
