Maybe I'll Go Live In South Korea

South Korea is looking more and more attractive to me. Yesterday their Prime Minister resigned (second story down) because he had gone golfing when he was supposed to oversee the nation's response to a national railway strike. What? A country that isn't content with its head of government being on vacation more than 40 percent of the time? A head of government that actually takes responsibility when he screws up? They're way ahead of the United States in math and science. They have national health insurance. They have a prosperous expanding economy. They have kimchee. If they just weren't so close to North Korea.

Hmm, I think i need a little more information. Are they not anti American like the North? I think I'll still pick Hawaii, tho i've never been there.

My son has been in South Korea for four years teaching English and he has been very well received. He has had one incident, in a bar, with an obnoxious friend, where there were some anti-American remarks. When we visited him three years ago, we saw graffiti which we were told were anti-American slogans. The older generation loves Americans; the university students wish our military would go away. The problem with Hawaii as an alternative is that you have the same national leadership that won't admit mistakes and you still don't have national health insurance. Plus everything is so expensive you can't afford to live there. I don't know about the kimchee.

Watch out for the kimchee, crockhead! I'll never forget the night one of my coworkers came to work after too much kimchee. He reeked of it from every pore. He sat there in his own 20' cloud of stench and nobody would go anywhere near him. Finally the boss made him leave so we could all get back to work. It wasn't funny at the time. Laughin' now though...
